Kaizer Chiefs given transfer wish list: ‘These five will make you champions’

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has identified five players he believes his old club must target in the current transfer window to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.

After finishing third in the league last term, Chiefs are preparing for a demanding campaign that includes domestic competitions and the CAF Confederation Cup.

The team is currently in Europe for pre-season under new coach Fernando da Cruz but has only announced two new signings so far: defender Thabo Moloisane and goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner.

Speaking on iDiski TV, Khanye outlined his transfer wish list, which features striker Tshegofatso Mabasa, defender Olisa Ndah and midfielder Sipho Mbule—all of whom have previously played for rivals Orlando Pirates.

Khanye on Mabasa’s unfortunate fate

The list is rounded out by Cape Town City youngster Emile Witbooi and Stellenbosch FC winger Langelihle Phili.

Khanye was particularly vocal about the need for a clinical striker like Mabasa. “If I were in charge, I would have signed Mabasa,” he stated.

“The way the club is playing, they need a sharp striker—someone dynamic who understands the basics of football. He can receive the ball and create space for himself.”

He also noted Mabasa’s unfortunate timing when leaving Pirates. “It’s a pity he left Pirates when they were winning every game. If he had left and Pirates started losing, people would be talking about him. But he went to Stellenbosch and still showed who he is, breaking Sundowns supporters’ hearts and scoring week in and week out. So I’d bring in Mabasa.”

Ex-Chiefs star regrets Sipho Mbule miss

The analyst also endorsed the signing of Nigerian defender Ndah, citing his strong mindset. “I’d also sign Ndah without hesitation because he has a winning mentality and Witbooi as well,” Khanye added.

Khanye expressed regret that Chiefs missed the opportunity to sign Mbule before his recent move to Iraqi club Zakho SC.

“I’d also sign Langelihle Phili and even Sipho Mbule. I know Sipho Mbule has left and congratulations to Mike Makaab [his agent] for securing this move for him because, I’ll be honest, after he left Pirates, I thought it was over for him. But I would have had a conversation with him before he left. Chiefs should have signed him.”
