Spanish club reveals big Relebohile Mofokeng regret

Spanish club Cadiz has voiced its respect for former Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng, stating it would have been a “pleasure” to play against him in their upcoming pre-season friendly this Saturday.

Pirates began their pre-season tour in Spain with a 1-1 draw against Cordoba on Wednesday. Their schedule continues with a match against Cadiz, followed by games against Al Ittihad, Las Palmas and Neom SC.

Ahead of the clash, Cadiz acknowledged the recent departure of the talented attacker from the Buccaneers. The Spanish side shared a video compilation of Mofokeng’s highlights, showcasing their high regard for the player.

The club captioned the video with a message directed at their South African opponents: “On Saturday, we’ll face the Orlando Pirates in our preseason. It would have been a pleasure to face this great player.”

This tribute serves as a significant compliment to the 21-year-old, who recently completed a move to Belgian club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

Cadiz, who competed in LaLiga during the 2023/24 season, now plays in Spain’s second division.

Playmaker left Pirates as a legend

Mofokeng left Pirates after three impressive seasons when he made 125 appearances, scoring 29 goals and adding 31 assists.

The Bafana Bafana playmaker won six trophies at Pirates, among them last season’s Premier Soccer League as well as three MTN8 crowns.

He signed a four-year contract with the Belgian side and will be hoping to hit the ground running in the new season having joined the club for pre-season.
