Chiefs’ Matlou insists ‘people always talk’ in response to criticism

A section of Kaizer Chiefs fans have been attacking George Matlou for what they feel are inconsistent performances.

Despite serving the club since 2022, the 27-year-old has not enjoyed regular playtime owing to injuries and partly due to stiff competition. In the ongoing 2025/26 Premier Soccer League campaign, Matlou has featured just once across all competitions.

However, he might get more minutes in the second half of the season after returning from an injury.

Despite his massive talent and commitments, despite the shortcomings caused by injuries, some fans have been unhappy, subjecting Matlou to a love/hate relationship. In his interview with Gagasi FM, the versatile midfielder insists he can’t impress everyone.

Forget about what people say

I’m going to talk about myself because there was a moment I wasn’t playing so you can just imagine you go on social media or anywhere. So, you’ll see that now this one is not playing. Yes, I was attacked, things were said about me. So, you can just imagine what was happening in me,” he stated.

“So, pressure is there, so you have to just maybe forget about what people say and you know what you’re good at. So, focus on football.

“People always talk whether you do good or bad. So, as a professional player, you should know that you play good this game, people will be happy.

“Next game you have a bad game; they will still speak. So, forget about what people say and focus on your job and help your team to get the results and stuff,” Matlou concluded.
