Chiefs’ Nabi cautioned about overusing ‘Messi’

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has been urged to find an alternative to Gaston Sirino at the club.

The 33-year-old former Mamelodi Sundowns player joined the Glamour Boys in the most recent transfer window as a free agent.

The South American has been an instant hit at Amakhosi; in the three Premier Soccer League matches played, Sirino has a goal and two assists. However, he was injured in Chiefs' controversial 2-1 loss against Masandawana.

He was to miss a few days as a result, but Junior Khanye believes it is a warning to coach Nabi that he should have a player filling the void left if Sirino is not on the pitch due to unavoidable circumstances.

“I heard that Sirino is injured and that he will be out for two weeks or so, and I am not sure if it is a muscle or whatever,” the former Amakhosi attacker told SNL24.

“Yes, Sirino is a match-winner, game-changer, and a special player but the coach can't rely on him all the time. He must have a couple of similar players in the team as other options, and that is according to how I assess the situation.

“Sirino is a player that makes things happen for Kaizer Chiefs and he is a special player. He is the main player and Kaizer Chiefs' Messi for now who is making a huge difference to the team. He is a player that other teams and coaches will plan around going forward when they have to face Chiefs,” Khanye concluded.

Coach Nabi has since confirmed Sirino will play a part in Saturday's Carling Knockout game against SuperSport United.
