Kaizer Chiefs have officially announced that midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala will miss the rest of the season due to injury, while striker Wandile Duba’s availability remains in question.

The news comes as Amakhosi head into their final three matches of the campaign, following a hard-fought draw against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Shabalala was stretchered off the field during the first half of the Sundowns match after a challenge from Jayden Adams. The club has now provided a detailed update on the severity of his injury.

“Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala is set for surgery after suffering a broken arm in Wednesday night’s Betway Premiership clash against Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria,” the club stated.

How long will Shabalala be out?

The statement continued: “Shabalala was stretchered off following a tackle late in the first half and rushed to hospital, where scans revealed a fracture to his right humerus, a bone between the shoulder and elbow. He remains under medical care ahead of surgery.”

With an expected recovery period of five to six weeks, Shabalala has been ruled out for the remainder of the season. “The Club has extended its well wishes, hoping for a smooth operation and a full speedy recovery for the young midfielder,” the announcement concluded.

Meanwhile, Wandile Duba was absent from the squad that faced Sundowns, with the club confirming he is dealing with a groin issue.

“Striker Wandile Duba was absent from the fixture as he continues to battle a groin injury,” the club added. “The medical team is working diligently to aid his recovery, with hopes of seeing him back on the pitch soon.”
