Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Abel Shongwe is unimpressed by the Glamour Boys’ display so far this season despite some positives witnessed this term.
Chiefs currently lie fourth on the PSL table with 19 points, three behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who they can tie with if they win against Orbit College on Tuesday evening.
However, Shongwe says his ex-team is still far away from the top teams given what he has so far witnessed while also questioning whether co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze are cut for the job.
“Yes, Kaizer Chiefs won, but what the players are showing us is not football,” Shongwe told KickOff.
“They have not started playing, to be honest. They are not there yet. For example, the Sundowns v Orlando Pirates game, that was football
Is there favouritism at Kaizer Chiefs?

“Even the co-coaches are still looking for formations. They don't understand the players. The three points, we are happy about it, there's no doubt about it. It's three points in the bag,” he added.
Shongwe then sensationally claimed that there is favouritism when it comes to selection at Chiefs, questioning why some players who are in good form get dropped from the squad.
“Zitha Kwinika was starting, he was doing well, but now he is starting on the bench just because Inacio Miguel is back. For what good reason?” he posed.
“Or just to bring the left-footed Aden McCarthy? That's what kills a team: sidelining players who are playing well just because your favourites are now fit to play.
Shongwe wants Glody Lilepo benched

“Kwinika was playing well and even captained the team. Why is he now being benched? For what good reason?”
While Congolese winger Glody Lilepo, who was signed in January, has been termed as one of the best bits of business for Amakhosi in recent months, Shongwe is not convinced by the 28-year-old.
“Glody Lilepo, he still needs to be benched,” Shongwe added. “He's been doing well, but in the biggest games, he is not doing it for Kaizer Chiefs.”
“His decision-making is his biggest problem. Where he is supposed to pass the ball, he attempts to score, and where he is supposed to score, he attempts to score. These coaches have to help the players.”
