The Cape Town Spurs winger has been told what to do after the disappointment
Former Cape Town Spurs FC winger Tabiso Mpame has advised Asanele Velebayi to focus on his football and not let his failed transfer to Kaizer Chiefs affect him.
Velebayi was the subject of transfer interest from Chiefs but the Soweto giants had multiple offers rejected by Cape Town Spurs for the highly rated winger.
Chiefs failed to come up with an improved bid before the transfer window closed on Friday, leaving the attacker at Spurs.
While it might have left him disappointed, Mpame feels it is not the time for the player to feel sorry for himself but rather focus on what really matters.
What should Velebayi do after his failed Chiefs transfer?
“I told him that, ‘Boy, when God wants it to happen, it is going to happen. But now, focus on where you are,” Mpame told FARPost.
“The negotiations and everything they are not your problem. Your problem is to play, perform, and continue producing the performances you have been producing.’
“The boy is doing very well; he is managing, working very hard, and doing extra training. So, I believe his time is going to come, just like Chumani Butsaka. I told him the very same thing: ‘Keep on fighting; you can’t hide in the room; you have to keep on fighting.’ Look at him now; he has joined Stellenbosch FC.”
Mpame drew parallels between the winger’s situation and that of his Polokwane City counterpart Oswin Appollis, who was also a subject of interest from Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, but no deal was agreed by Friday.
The winger has been told to ‘stay professional & loyal’
“You know, I think it’s a very disturbing situation, but as long as you are strong enough. I mean, it also happens to a lot of big-name players where deals are being delayed,” he added.
“Look at Oswin Appollis’ situation and what happened to him. Those things are examples for these young players. And they understand they have to keep being professional about it and stay loyal.
“This is because, at the end of the day, you are going to end up doing your own thing, sabotaging the deals. So, you will end up having no job. The main factor I always tell them is to have a job and a salary to feed your family.”
After his failed transfer, Velebayi was named captain at Cape Town Spurs following the departure of Chumani Butsaka to Stellenbosch FC.
