Kaizer Chiefs transfer boost as key target admits desire to ‘compete with the best’

Stellenbosch FC midfielder Langelihle Phili has commented on his future following widespread speculation linking him to several clubs, including Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.

The 21-year-old has become a hot topic in the current transfer window after a standout season with Stellenbosch and reports have strongly suggested that the powerful and pacy winger could be on his way out of the Cape Winelands, with a potential move to Naturena on the cards.

In an interview with iDiski Times, Phili affirmed his confidence in his representatives, the Football First agency, to guide his career path.

Phili breaks silence on Kaizer Chiefs links

“I trusted my representatives with my transfer from AmaZulu FC to Stellenbosch FC, and I continue to trust them with whatever comes next,” Phili stated. “The ultimate goal is to compete alongside the best players in the world.”

Phili’s impressive 2023/24 campaign could be the catalyst for a major career move. His stellar performances were recognised at the Stellenbosch awards gala, where he scooped four major accolades: Player’s Player of the Season, the Oshwin Andries Young Player of the Season, the Golden Boot, and the Rama Fans’ Player of the Season.

Reflecting on the past season, Phili expressed satisfaction with both the team’s resilience and his individual contributions.

In-demand forward in awe of his season

“My season at the club has been a blessing. Although we didn’t achieve all of our team goals, avoiding relegation ensures we can compete again next year,” he explained.

“On a personal note, I’m pleased with my performance, as I was able to step up and support the team through both the good and the tough moments.”

It is not hard to understand why Chiefs are keen on the forward as he scored nine goals and added one assist for Stellies last season, a campaign in which they struggled in the first half before improving to finish ninth.
