Chiefs Transfer News: Amakhosi get green light to sign long-term targets!

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs have finally been given a green light to land their long-term target Asanele Velebayi, after the Premier Soccer League Dispute Resolution Chamber ruled in the player's favour.

The South Africa international has been yearning for a move to the Glamour Boys for two seasons in a row, but it was hard for Amakhosi to agree with Cape Town Spurs. In the 2023/24 season, Chiefs felt the Urban Warriors overrated the winger and refused to pay a reported R10 million for his services.

Spurs were eventually relegated to the second-tier, and last season, they further fell to the third-tier, which is an amateur league. The players became free agents, by the rules, and free to join teams of their choice or stay at Spurs.

Chiefs' reprieve, at last!

However, Spurs insisted there is no way they could let their players leave without being compensated, a decision that has been overruled by the Dispute Resolution Chamber, which have confirmed the winger is free to join a team interested in his services.

‘In the premise, I make the following order: the application [presented by Velebayi] is heard on urgent basis. The applicant [Velebayi] is declared a free agent. The counter application [by Cape Town Spurs] is dismissed since the applicant [Velebayi] succeeded,” part of the ruling read.

What this basically means is that Chiefs can now get their man for free, alongside Luke Baartman who was also being targeted. In the ongoing transfer window, the Soweto giants have confirmed the arrival of  Flavio Silva (Persebaya Surabaya, Indonesia), Ethan Chislett (Port Vale, England), Nkanyiso Shinga (FC Alverce, Portugal), Paseka Mako (Orlando Pirates), Thabiso Monyane (Orlando Pirates), and Siphesihle Ndlovu (SuperSport United).
