Chiefs Transfers: Shabalala attracts European interest as Amakhosi dangle new deal

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala has reportedly emerged as a subject of interest from a European club even as the Glamour Boys prepare to offer him a new deal.

Shabalala’s current deal ends in June but Chiefs have already indicated their willingness to offer him a new and improved contract to tie him long-term and that will also fend off interest from elsewhere.

However, Soccer Laduma reports that a European club is keen on the attacking midfielder, who had unsuccessful trials at Belgian club KSV Westerlo two years ago, and are willing to begin talks given he can now engage with other clubs as he enters the final six months of his contract.

“No, it is not the same team. It is a different club altogether but there has been interest from another European club for Mdu (Shabalala),” a source told Soccer Laduma.

“The club is aware of that but they are not putting pressure on the player as he is enjoying his game at the moment and they are not entertaining any interest from other clubs, as things stand.

“But they are not sure how long they will hold onto him with the form that he is currently on.”

Can Amakhosi hold onto Shabalala?

Shabalala is among coach Nasreddine Nabi’s most reliable players as he acts as the club’s main source of creativity and goals.

He has so far scored four goals, assisted twice in 13 games across all competitions and Chiefs are not entertaining any offers.

However, his contract situation could leave Amakhosi in a difficult position if he opts against signing the new deal being offered to him with a view to moving to other clubs at the end of the season.
