Kaizer Chiefs make decision on Mduduzi Shabalala’s future

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly set to offer midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala a new contract following his impressive performances for the club.

Shabalala has become one of the bright spots in a Chiefs team that is struggling for consistency and at 20, he is seen as the future for the club.

The midfielder signed a new three-year deal in 2022 after his promotion to the senior team and with the contract running out in 2025, the club appears ready to tie him to a new one to fend off any potential suitors.

According to Soccer Laduma, Chiefs have tabled an improved offer for the midfielder and there is optimism from both camps that the player will accept the new terms as he is a key member of Nasreddine Nabi’s team.

Will Chiefs convince Shabalala to sign?

Shabalala has been one of the players Nabi has heavily relied on for creativity this season and he has so far scored three goals while providing as many assists, the tactician fielding him either on the wing or in the No.10 role.

Chiefs feel the academy graduate can form part of a successful team in future with the club set to back Nabi in the transfer market in a bid to strengthen the squad.

The midfielder has made 11 appearances this season for a Chiefs team that is ninth on the PSL table with 12 points after winning three, drawing as many, while losing three of their nine league matches so far.

Chiefs return to league action on December 29 when they host Chippa United, looking to end the year on a high, after going three matches without a win.
