Chiefs urged ‘to knock Spurs door’ for Velebayi

Cape Town Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou has made a U-turn regarding star attacker Asanele Velebayi, hinting they can consider selling the versatile attacker if Kaizer Chiefs come back with a good offer.

A couple of days ago, the administrator claimed the ‘door is closed‘ for the Glamour Boys after the transfer saga involving the South Africa international.

However, a couple of days ago, the second-tier outfit confirmed the exit of their striker Ashley Cupido to the Premier Soccer League side Stellenbosch.

Amakhosi can get Velebayi

The Soweto giants have been active in the transfer window and have so far signed Rushwin Dortley, Bongani Sam, Fiacre Ntwari, Inasio Miguel and Gaston Sirino.

The latest sentiments by Efstathiou should encourage Amakhosi to go for the 21-year-old, “To answer your question regarding that the ‘shop is closed’, it is. We have to continue to operate as a club and focus on the challenge before us and that is to compete on the field, not off it,” he told iDiski Times.

“In the meantime, if someone knocks on the door, as Stellenbosch did, there will be someone to open. Last time we looked outside, there was nobody standing there and knocking!”

Why Chiefs need Velebayi

Amakhosi look strong in the defensive department after the arrival of Ntwari, Miguel, Dortley, and Sam.

Sirino's arrival has strengthened the midfield but coach Nasreddine Nabi is struggling to get an effective attacker.

So far, it looks like their chances of getting Percy Tau and Fiston Mayele are slim and the technical team should once again bid for the Spurs youngster.
