‘Chivaviro has similar style to Erling Haaland,’ says ex-Chiefs striker

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Fees Moloi has likened Ranga Chivaviro with Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

Amakhosi announced the departure of Chivaviro on Wednesday, with his contract coming to an end on 30 June.

The 32-year-old joined Chiefs after a stellar season at Gallants where he scored 17 goals in 30 games, as his former team went to reached the semi-final of the Caf Confederation Cup. More exits are expected from Naturena in the next couple of days.

At Chiefs, he scored nine goals and provided one assist in 45 appearances he made during his time there.

Moloi believes Chivaviro didn’t “fail” at Chiefs but admitted that he couldn’t live up to expectations. He went on to explain that the style of play clashed with the one Chiefs use, likening him with Haaland.

EX-CHIEFS IDENTIFIES SIMILAR TRAIT BETWEEN CHIVAVIRO AND HAALAND

“While I cannot say I'm disappointed he's gone, it's true that he didn't meet expectations,” Fees Moloi told KickOff.com.

“However, I also cannot say he failed at Chiefs. We can only conclude that he didn't meet the coach's expectations and didn't play to his full potential.

“Perhaps Nabi is not the type of coach who prefers a target man, and Chivaviro was just used because he was already part of the club's strike force.

“The injuries reported (about him) when he joined Chiefs might have negatively affected his performances. Now that the season is over, the coach is releasing him to make room for new strikers who might be signed.

“I believe Chivaviro is a target man. He holds the ball for teammates and has a style similar to Erling Haaland. He makes effective movements outside the box.

“With his height and power, Chivaviro could be deadly inside the box. However, sometimes he finds himself on the left or right, running away from the box.

“If he had remained positioned in the box, he could have scored many goals.”
