Defensive problems solved? Chiefs set to bring in an R10M-rated defender to bolster Nabi’s squad

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs have been active in the last two transfer windows in the Premier Soccer League.

The defensive department is one of the units coach Nasreddine Nabi has worked hard to improve, bringing in Inacio Miguel, Rushwin Dortley, goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, Bradley Cross, and Bongani Sam. The last two, including Ntwari have struggled to make an impact, but the return of Edmilson Dove from injury is a plus to the squad.

Despite that, the Glamour Boys have been struggling to keep clean sheets, conceding seemingly easy goals that have put their chances of playing the MTN8 next season at risk.

Chiefs are now looking to get another defender, Lwandile Mabuya, to strengthen the right side of the defense.

R10 million-rated Mabuya, Amakhosi solution?

Mabuya has been doing well for Richards Bay this season despite their struggles, and Nabi feels he can be the man to rely on. This is despite Amakhosi and Reeve Frosler agreeing to extend their deal that expires at the end of the season.

“They have looked at different right backs, and it’s believed they apparently want to settle for Lwandile [Mabuya], and that’s why they are believed to be preparing an R10 million offer to table to Richards Bay. They are valuing the player, so they are preparing a substantial offer that they believe can convince Richards Bay as well. This will be a good offer considering how they bought other players before,” SNL24 reported.

“For now, they have [Dillan] Solomons, Frosler, and [Zitha Macheke] Kwinika who can play in that position, and apparently no one is really the first choice, and that’s why the club is set to release some of them. The club is looking at promoting Under-20 international Sfiso Timba as well as signing former young graduate Lungelo Bhengu from Cape Town Spurs. So they are already looking at how their right-back position would look next season with Mabuya as the first priority,” they concluded.
