‘Don’t judge book by its cover’ – Pirates legend on Ouaddou

Published on by

An Orlando Pirates legend is refusing to join the chorus of doubt regarding new head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

The timing of Ouaddou's appointment and his relatively unproven coaching background have put him under intense scrutiny, particularly given the monumental achievements of his predecessor, Jose Riveiro.

Riveiro's tenure at Pirates was simply legendary. In just under three seasons, he collected an incredible five trophies, cementing his place as the most successful coach in the Buccaneers' PSL history.

His consistency was equally impressive, as he guided Ezimnyama to a second-place finish in the Betway Premiership in all three of his campaigns.

Ouaddou now faces the unenviable task of following such a dominant figure. While the pressure to deliver is undeniable, the legend's silence suggests a wait-and-see approach, allowing Ouaddou the opportunity to carve out his own legacy.

‘95% OF PEOPLE ARE ALREADY DOUBTING HIM’

“Ja, sometimes you can judge a book by its cover only to find out that's not the case. 95 percent of people are already doubting him,” said Lekoelea.

“But if you can check the (FIFA) Club World Cup final, the whole world was saying PSG is going to win that cup, but what happened? Chelsea won.

“Even at Pirates, don't judge a book by it's cover, let's wait for six, seven games and then we'll see. Just because he comes from Marumo (Gallants), they may not know that a dynamite comes in small packages but it creates something big.

“Only to find out that he's the coach who could win us the league, you see. We don't know.”
