Kaizer Chiefs executed a remarkable turnaround as they came back from being 1-0 behind to secure a 2-1 victory against Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby during the DStv Diski Challenge match on Saturday at Dobsonville Stadium.

Aden McCarthy and Nkosana Mbuthu netted goals for Chiefs, while Mmatlou contributed the lone goal for Pirates.

The match commenced at a measured pace as both teams assessed each other. As the game progressed, it transformed into an exhilarating contest with both sides eager to find the first goal.

Amakhosi attempted to build play from the back, looking for openings to exploit against the Buccaneers. At one point, Chiefs enjoyed a slight advantage in ball possession.

Meanwhile, Ezimnyama Ngenkani made a handful of entries into the box in pursuit of the opening goal, but the Phefeni Glamour Boys held strong defensively.

In the second half, the Sea Robbers increased their intensity, seemingly energised by their supporters as they aimed to break the stalemate.

SEPALE BROKE DEADLOCK IN THE SECOND HALF

Their relentless pressure paid off when they scored through Mmatlou Sepale, who capitalised at the far post from a deflected cross.

In the 76th minute, Chiefs were awarded a penalty after Manqoba Ozoemena was fouled in the box. Aden McCarthy took the responsibility and struck the net, leveling the score just two minutes after Pirates had taken the lead.

As both teams continued to push for a late winner and Chiefs’ Nkosana Mbuthu delivered a decisive blow in the 91st minute for Pirates, claiming victory in dramatic fashion.

In a different match earlier in the day, SuperSport United triumphed over Sekhukhune United with a score of 1-0.
