Prominent agent Mike Makaab has explained how he pushed for Elias Mokwana to sign for Kaizer Chiefs but his camp frustrated the efforts, leading to his move to Tunisian giants Esperance.
Mokwana’s move to Esperance has run into headwinds after his attorney Kabelo Mashigo revealed that the player is considering terminating his deal over breach of contract, having not been paid since signing for the North African club.
“Much of the issues are confidential, but I can confirm that the club is in breach of the agreement. We provided them with notice to rectify the breach,” Mashigo told SABC Sport.
Mokwana turned down Amakhosi’s interest
“They have not complied, leaving the player with no option but to accept the repudiation. Elias is focusing on the call-up now and once that is done, we will consider the next step,” Mashigo concluded.
Mokwana has made eight appearances for the club while scoring one goal but it has been a frustrating spell since he ditched Sekhukhune United for Esperance, signing a three-year deal.
The winger was among players who were heavily pursued by Kaizer Chiefs but a deal did not materialise with the Glamour Boys with Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr later saying Mokwana rejected their personal terms.
How did Makaab push for a move to Chiefs?
However, with his spell in Tunisia now turning sour, Makaab has given an account of how Chiefs missed out on the player.
“I did and strongly encouraged them to close a deal with Kaizer Chiefs, who were really interested. I worked hard to convince them, but sadly, the club’s advisor and agents involved had other ideas,” said Makaab.
Chiefs, however, could get a second bite of the cherry if the player terminates his contract with Esperance as he could become a free agent, allowing them to sign him at no cost.
