Emotional damage! Hunt concedes denied goal against Chiefs was ‘frustrating & hard to take’

Kaizer Chiefs laboured to a 1-0 Premier Soccer League win against Durban City on Friday night at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The only goal was scored in the 88th minute by substitute Flavio Silva, who headed in a well-delivered cross by Gaston Sirino. It was the Glamour Boys' first win in six domestic games; prior to the match, the Soweto giants had failed to win their initial four games in PSL and one in the Carling Knockout.

Before Amakhosi scored, the Citizens thought they had scored in the 87th minute, a strike that sent the hosts' fans and coach Gavin Hunt to wild cheers.

The 61-year-old was seen celebrating in front of Chiefs' fans before the assistant referee's offside flag cut short his cheers.

Emotional damage!

Hunt has now explained how the disallowed goal hurt him emotionally since he thought his team had secured maximum points, and in the process maintained their unbeaten run at home.

“Well, emotionally, it is really frustrating, you know. I thought we had won it, and I’m not sure if it was an offside or not. I didn’t see it,” the former Glamour Boys coach said in his post-match interview with the media.

“But emotionally, it’s hard to take that. We put so much into the game. So, what can I say? We deserved more out of the game—possibly three points. But anyway, it’s gone,” Hunt concluded.

Durban City will now focus on their next Premier Soccer League game against Marumo Gallants that will be staged at Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday.
