Ertugral warns City ahead of match against ‘best in Africa’ Pirates

Cape Town City coach Muhsin Ertugral has warned his players not to dwell on Sunday's massive win over Kaizer Chiefs in the Premier Soccer League.

The Citizens needed a second-half strike from Darwin Gonzalez to secure maximum points against the struggling Glamour Boys. The win took them to 14 points from 11 matches, just three out of the top-four position and one behind seventh-placed Amakhosi.

The next assignment for City will be on Wednesday, January 8 at the DHL Cape Town Stadium against Orlando Pirates. Bucs have played 10 league matches and lost just once, winning the remaining nine outings.

It will be a crucial game for Bucs who are aware a slip-up might go a long way in denying them the league title. The Soweto giants have been tipped to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns for the crown in the ongoing 2024/25 campaign.

Get over the Glamour Boys win!

The Buccaneers were engaged in the continental assignment last weekend. They beat Ivorian outfit Stade d'Abidjan 3-0 in Group C of the Caf Champions League outing. It explains why Ertugral has warned his players against over-celebrating win over Chiefs.

“Orlando Pirates at the moment one of the best teams not only in South Africa but in the continent,” the tactician stated.

“We need to get over this performance as quickly as possible and we'll see, because both teams can play a very tactical approach.”

After their recent loss, Chiefs will be in action against Stellenbosch on Wednesday at the FNB Stadium, a game they must win to keep alive their almost non-existent chances of winning the Premier Soccer League this season.
