‘Every wall can break’ – Pirates star reveals two things Bafana will use to silence Egypt

Bafana Bafana forward Evidence Makgopa is confident that South Africa will emerge victorious against Egypt in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations clash in Agadir on Friday.

South Africa face a stern test against the record seven-time African champions as they look to make it back-to-back wins and become the first team to book a place in the Round of 16.

However, the Egyptians are loaded with quality and are fancied to win the match and even top Group B despite South Africa’s good record against them that has seen the North Africans fail to defeat Bafana Bafana since 2010, a run of six games when they have won four and drawn two.

That is not what Makgopa is counting but rather the quality of the Bafana Bafana squad and the great team spirit within camp.

Makgopa shares what gives Bafana confidence

“It is football, you never know what is going to happen so every wall can break,” Makgopa told reporters in Morocco. “We do have quality in camp plus the spirit we have amongst us is going to help us to keep going.”

South Africa headed to the 2025 tournament with an unbeaten record of 26 games, stretching from AFCON 2023, and made it 27 when they beat Angola 2-1 in their opening match on Monday.

Makgopa will hope to play a part in Friday’s contest after being an unused substitute in the match against Angola.
