Ex-Chiefs player snubs Rayners! Names his PSL’s Player of the Season

The 2024/25 Premier Soccer League is almost ending, with many players having done enough to be considered for top awards.

Mamelodi Sundowns have already won the league with a game to spare, while Orlando Pirates are guaranteed a second position. Most of the players who have shown are from Masandawana; Iqraam Rayners and Lucas Ribeiro have scored 14 goals and provided nine assists each, and will be battling for the Golden Boot. Arthur Sales has also been doing well, scoring eight goals and providing as many assists.

However, Keletso Makgalwa is also a front runner, having scored four goals and provided 11 assists for Sekhukhune United in the Premier Soccer League.

Ex-Chiefs winger Khanye names his winners

Former Kaizer Chiefs player Junior Khanye believes Ribeiro and Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng – who has five goals and six assists, should be considered for the top award.

“Ribeiro and it’s close between him and Mofokeng. The gap is not that big, but Ribeiro is a bit experienced than Mofokeng and he was consistent in many games,” he opened up as quoted by iDiski Times.

“It’s only two games, the game he [Mofokeng] played against Kaizer Chiefs and the game against Arrows where I saw the coach asking a lot from the boy by not playing him to his strength, asking him to do more, to defend. But he gave everything.

“If Mofokeng still falls under [the Young Player of the Season] category, I think he overpowers everyone, and just to be straight forward I give it to him,” Khanye concluded.

He believes Orlando Pirates custodian Sipho Chaine should win the Goalkeeper of the Season Award, while his teammate Nkosinathi Sibisi should be considered for the Defender of the Season prize.

Khanye believes Miguel Cardoso has done enough to win the Coach of the Season Award.
