Ex-Kaizer Chiefs star names goalkeepers who should leave

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Jabu Mahlangu has delivered a blunt assessment of the club’s goalkeeping roster, advising the Soweto giants to release two players ahead of the new season.

The Amakhosi squad has reconvened at their Naturena headquarters for pre-season training, where they have met their new head coach, Fernando Da Cruz.

The team has also welcomed two new signings, including goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, who recently made a surprising move from Sekhukhune United.

Leaner’s arrival has significantly intensified the competition for the starting goalkeeper position, creating a selection dilemma for the coaching staff.

The Bafana Bafana international’s presence complicates the futures of long-serving backup Bruce Bvuma and Rwandan international Fiacre Ntwari.

With Bontle Molefe also having recently signed a contract extension, management faces a difficult choice to trim the squad.

Speaking on the show SoccerZone, Mahlangu, who played 99 games for Chiefs, argued that the club is now in a position where it must offload one or two of its four senior goalkeepers.

Which star should Kaizer Chiefs release?

“They can release Ntwari to try somewhere else because I don’t see him as Petersen’s backup or helping Petersen,” Mahlangu stated as quoted by KickOff. “But Leaner, I see him competing with Petersen and pushing each other more than Ntwari.”

The club legend was also critical of Bvuma’s reliability.

“Bruce is inconsistent. When he gets a chance, he makes costly mistakes. If they have a young goalkeeper from the development, then personally, I would release Ntwari and Bvuma.”

Last season, Petersen cemented his status as the club’s undisputed number one. He enjoyed a stellar campaign, keeping 15 clean sheets in 26 appearances across all competitions.
