Stellenbosch FC have secured the signing of a former Kaizer Chiefs captain on a long-term contract, strengthening their team for the upcoming season.

The Stellies had a remarkable season in the PSL, clinching the Carling Knockout Cup by defeating TS Galaxy in the final.

Additionally, they made it to the semi-finals in both the MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup. Furthermore, they secured a second-place finish in the DStv Premiership, earning themselves a spot in the CAF Confederations Cup.

The Western Cape outfit has completed the acquisition of Omega Mdaka, the former captain of Kaizer Chiefs' DStv Diski Challenge team, as part of their efforts to maintain a successful performance in the upcoming season.

STELLENBOSCH FC ANNOUNCE SIGNING OF EX-CHIEFS CAPTAIN

“Stellenbosch Football Club is pleased to announce that the club has signed highly-rated 20-year-old Omega Mdaka on a long-term deal,” stated the club’s statement.

“Mdaka, who most recently progressed through Kaizer Chiefs’ development ranks, has signed his first professional contract in the Cape Winelands.

“We are excited to welcome a player of Omega’s potential to the Club,” said Stellenbosch FC Chief Executive Officer, Rob Benadie.

“He has a bright future ahead of him and I have no doubt that Stellenbosch is the right place for him to develop his talent.”

Mdaka has been unattached since he parted ways with Amakhosi in November last year. He was released by the club along with Puso Dithejane after the duo refused to be the ball boys in the Carling Knockout match against AmaZulu FC.

The Soweto giants then demanded R1.5 million compensation for any interested team.

While Dithejane went on to sign for TS Galaxy, Mdaka had an opportunity for a trial at AmaZulu. He trained for the KZN senior team as he was being assessed to potentially be with their reserve team.

However, he eventually didn’t sign with AmaZulu after the two clubs couldn’t reach a consensus in the negotiations for the transfer of Mdaka.

Steve Barker’s side has also signed Sanele Barns from Richards Bay FC and Lehlohonolo Mojela from TS Galaxy.
