Ex-Pirates star warns Bucs over one big mistake that could cost them PSL title

Orlando Pirates have been warned against not fully utilising their advantages during matches, something that could prove costly in the PSL title race.

Former Pirates forward Phumudzo Manenzhe is worried that Abdeslam Ouaddou’s team might come to regret later as they are getting into the opposition box more but scoring just a few goals.

“If you are a Pirates coach, you look at the 33 touches in the opposition box and say you have scored only two goals, is that good enough to be able to put pressure?” Manenzhe said on SuperSport TV after Pirates’ 2-0 win over Magesi FC last weekend.

“You are looking at the league that might go down to goal difference so all these opportunities that they are getting and missing now, you do not want to regret later in the season.”

Why is ex-Pirates striker worried?

Manenzhe’s observation stems from Pirates’ last two matches where they drew 0-0 with Sekhukhune United, a game they totally dominated and created several goal scoring opportunities and missed before beating Magesi.

Against Magesi, they should have won by more but could only manage two goals scored in the first half, leaving them trailing Mamelodi Sundowns only on goal difference.

Pirates and Sundowns are tied on 32 points but the Brazilians have a goal difference of +17 compared to their +15 ahead of their game against AmaZulu on Tuesday evening.

The Buccaneers have a chance to move three points clear of Sundowns if the beat AmaZulu and also equal or surpass their goal difference.
