Former Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper John Tlale has spoken about potential factors that may hinder Orlando Pirates' chances of securing the league title this season.
While the Buccaneers have excelled in cup competitions, Masandawana have consistently triumphed in the league, clinching the title seven consecutive times.
Nevertheless, Pirates have demonstrated a formidable presence this season, commencing their campaign with impressive performances.
They have won all their opening six league games.
Tlale feels the Buccaneers’ involvement in the CAF Champions League will spoil their chances of dethroning the Brazilians.
JOHN TLALE ON WHAT WILL DISRUPT PIRATES FORM
“This is going to be an interesting season compared to the past one. It's boring to see [Mamelodi] Sundowns winning the league with five games remaining,” Tlale told KickOff.
“At least this season, Pirates will push to the limit. Pirates have depth and young boys who are performing well.
“Pirates' performance makes the league interesting. Wherever they are playing nowadays, the supporters come in numbers, which is a sign that the team is doing well.
“But I think it's going to be difficult for Pirates to balance things because of the Champions League. Every week you play about three games.”
Tlale believes Pirate have depth but he feels some of the players and young, inexperienced to deal with all that.
“So, the Champions League might hurt the Orlando Pirates' chances of doing well in the domestic league.”
