Siphelele Luthuli, who had an unsuccessful trial with Orlando Pirates, has spoken about his experience at the club and named two players who assisted him during that time.
After leaving Chippa United at the end of the previous season, the 30-year-old attacking midfielder trained with Soweto giants Pirates in December last year in hopes of securing a contract.
However, the club was reportedly not impressed and released him. He has since revealed that Pirates players Sipho Chaine and Thabiso Lebitso provided assistance during his trial period.
‘THEY GAVE ME ADVICE HOW TO IMPRESS THE COACH’
“Sipho Chaine and Thabiso Lebitso were great with me,” Luthuli told Soccer Laduma.

“They gave me advice on how to impress the coach and what’s expected at Pirates. They also reminded me of how big the club is, which motivated me even more.”
Luthuli was recently part of the Bafana Bafana team that played the CHAN qualifiers. Expressing his feelings, he said, “When I got the call from the team manager telling me to report to SAFA House, I honestly thought I was dreaming,” he added.
“It took a while to sink in. I’ve been through a lot, so hearing that kind of news felt unreal.
“Being part of the CHAN team meant a lot to me. Even when I was training with the team in Bloemfontein, I kept wondering how it all happened. But I was grateful. Coach Molefi Ntseki told me he was impressed – especially since I hadn’t played competitively in a while.”
