Fawaaz Basadien responds to Pirates and Chiefs transfer rumours

Stellenbosch FC defender Fawaaz Basadien has admitted he would love to sign for one of the top teams in the country amid interest from Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

Basadien has been heavily linked to the two teams since last year but stayed at Stellenbosch for the just-concluded season and the links to the Soweto giants have not died down.

With the off-season transfer window set to be opened, Basadien will be a player of interest to the two teams again with Pirates yet to open talks with Deon Hotto over a new deal while Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi is keen to add another left-back to his team.

That makes Basadien an attractive prospect that could lead to a bidding war between the two sides and the full-back admits he would love to move one day although he focused on the job at hand.

What has Basadien said over Chiefs & Pirates interest?

“I get this question often, for me, as I said before it’s about focusing what I can control, obviously all the rumours and this exists and it’s nice to have that as a player,” Basadien told the media as quoted by iDiski Times.

“But my main focus is to… whatever opportunity I get to play, is to do well, keep doing what I’m doing, keep improving each day, it’s my main focus, whatever happens, in the background is just part of the rumours being created.

“For me in football, there comes a time where you want to achieve greater things and play for the so-called big clubs, or make big moves, it’s just about the timing when it’s right for you – for me, my main focus is not about wanting to move now. Obviously I would like it, but my main thing is just to keep on playing and improving each day.”

Basadien is a full package who is good at scoring goals, creating them and defending, as he managed seven goals and added eight assists for Stellies last season as Steve Barker’s men finished third in the PSL and reached the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final for the first time in their history.
