‘Frustrated’ Lafitte happy with a hard-earned point against Chiefs – I’m a winner, here to improve the team

Marumo Gallants tactician Alex Lafitte is impressed with the way his team battled to get a point against Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday at the FNB Stadium.

Jaisen Clifford struck late in the second half to cancel out Khanyisa Mayo's strike in the first half. The Glamour Boys had also failed to take advantage of a penalty given as goalkeeper Washington Arubi dived to his right to deny Gaston Sirino.

Laffite is happy that Bahlabane Ba Ntwa managed to get a point in a tough environment despite playing against the favourites.

I'm here to improve the team

“I said to the guys in the changing room at half-time that God is with you. We started the second half with greater motivation and belief,” the tactician said in his post-match interview.

“I'm happy with the outcome of this match, but I'm frustrated with the schedule because we have played three matches in one week. But it is important to remain positive and to collect points.

“I am a winner, and I am here to improve the team and help the team compete against the best in this country,” Lafitte concluded.

Chiefs happy with ‘performance, rather than the result'

Meanwhile, clubs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has explained the 3-4-3 formation employed, as well as his team's four-match winless run across all competitions and three in the Premier Soccer League.

“I know that we have not won in the last three games, but the most important thing for us is the performance, rather than the result. The team performed well, and we were unlucky not to score more goals to win this game,” he told the media.

“We played in a 3-4-3 with a high block to press Gallants higher because they are playing a game with short passes this season, without as much long balls.

“We are now thinking about the next game, and we will talk about the plan for that match on Thursday with the players. It is a very important game on Saturday, and we are ready to qualify for the next round,” he concluded.
