Has Chiefs-linked Mokwena hinted he is on his way out of MC Alger?

Rulani Mokwena has struggled to register wins with MC Alger across all competitions since his elimination from the CAF Champions League by Mamelodi Sundowns.

The People’s Club have played three games since then – two in the Algerian Ligue 1 and one in the domestic Cup, losing two and drawing one. The lastest set-back was in the Coupe d’Algeria where old rival Sead Ramovic’s CR Belouizdad snatched a 3-2 win.

It was a close contest that ended 2-2 in regulation time before Ramovic’s men made the last next phase. As a matter of fact, MC Alger have not reached the final of the tournament since 2016, the last time they were crowned.

The 39-year-old Mokwena was not impressed by the way his players expressed themselves on the pitch.

Teams that want their coach to stay win…

“I don’t want to do speeches, we have leaders in the group. The result on the pitch speaks for itself. Teams that want their coach to stay, they win those type of games,” a frustrated Mokwena stated.

“Football is a game of mistakes and never, ever, ever, ever I’m not this person, I’m very grateful that I was raised in this manner, I will never throw the players under the bus.

“It’s my mistakes, my decisions [that cost us]. These players they’ve given me nothing but their best from the day I’ve arrived here,” Mokwena added.

Mokwena has been linked to Libyan outfit Al-Ittihad, who are in the market for a coach. It is also interesting to see if Kaizer Chiefs, who have been linked with the tactician in the past, can get him for the 2026/27 season.
