‘He’s never done than before’ – Kaze fires back at Kerr over easy Chiefs title win claim

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze has fired back at ex-PSL tactician Dylan Kerr, slamming him for lacking respect for him and his co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef.

Kaze and Ben Youssef watched their team win 1-0 against Golden Arrows on Tuesday, sending them to third place on the PSL table, but the tacticians have had to deal with criticism from fans and observers who claim they are not good enough and should be replaced.

The two have won five of their 15 matches since taking over from their boss Nasreddine Nabi and among those who feel they are not good enough is former Baroka FC, the now-defunct Moroka Swallows, Black Leopards, and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila coach Kerr who claimed he would easily win the PSL title with the current Chiefs team.

What did Dylan Kerr say?

“I would 100% win the league with Chiefs. I would get them [players] to play for me,” Kerr told SoccerBeat last month.

“If you go back to the knockout cup [Nedbank Cup win with TTM in 2021, beating Chippa United in the final] during COVID-19, I had 28 players, got two weeks to train, and went on to play in Durban and Johannesburg in the final.

“It doesn’t matter who you are or what you are, as long as you always get the players to put on the jersey and go play and fight for you on the field. So, that is all it takes,” he further said.

Those comments were not received well by Kaze and he has responded, claiming Kerr is talking about delivering titles yet he has never achieved such a feat.

“Sometimes there is a kind of lack of respect when some people talk about a position where there is a coach already and saying that I will make them champions while when you look at the history of that coach, he has never done that before,” Kaze told the media on Monday night.

While Kerr has never won the PSL title, he has enjoyed success in his coaching career, having won the 2021 Nedbank Cup with TTM, as well as a league title in Vietnam and with Kenyan giants Gor Mahia.

The 59-year-old is currently the coach of New York-based Soccer Stars United in the United States of America.
