Hotto turns R100k into sheep, goats and chickens after Black Label Cup magic

Orlando Pirates’ flying wingback Deon Hotto didn’t just leave Moses Mabhida with a winner’s medal, he left with a plan.

The Namibian speedster, crowned Champion of the Match after teeing up the opener in Pirates’ 2-0 triumph over the Carling All-Stars, pocketed a cool R100,000. For many, that’s shopping sprees or luxury splurges. For Hotto? It’s about going back to the soil.

The veteran has long worn his love for farming on his sleeve, and true to form, he revealed exactly how the prize money will be spent.

“To be honest with you, I’m gonna get myself 14 sheep, 12 goats and 24 chickens,” Hotto told SuperSport TV, his smile as wide as the Moses Mabhida pitch.

It’s a story that captures the man behind the boots, a footballer who finds joy in livestock as much as in lifting trophies. And speaking of trophies, Pirates are stacking them high as this victory marked their third piece of silverware this season, and history too: the Buccaneers became the first Carling Knockout Cup champions to add the Black Label Cup to their cabinet.

Hotto’s assist, Pirates’ dominance, and a farmyard soon to be buzzing with goats and chickens, it’s all part of the Buccaneers’ rich vein of form, on and off the pitch.
