How close is Lepasa to Durban City? Hunt on possibility of signing ex-Pirates striker

Coach Gavin Hunt has promised to add one or two faces in the Durban City team before the transfer window closes.

The tactician has so far signed Trevor Mokwena (Upington City), Gavin Hunt (head coach), Darren Keet (Cape Town City), Brooklyn Poggenpoel (SuperSport United), Liam de Kock (Stellenbosch), Fredrick Asare (Asante Kotoko), Trevor Mokwena (Upington City), Fezile Gcaba (on loan from Richards Bay), Kyle Jurgens (on loan from Stellenbosch FC), Thabo Nodada (Cape Town City), Jean Lwamba (Tafic FC), Haashim Domingo (Cape Town City), and Patrick Autata (Cape Town City).

Former Orlando Pirates striker Zakele Lepasa has been heavily linked with a move to Durban City for a couple of weeks now.

The Citizens have played five games so far, won two drawn as many and lost once. With four goals scored, Hunt feels there is a need for Lepasa, but he has left everything to the club's management.

Hunt on Lepasa's potential arrival

“I let the management handle it. I’m not getting involved. I can only do what I can do,” the ex-Kaizer Chiefs tactician said when asked about the Bafana Bafana international.

“We all know we need to certainly get another one or two in. We’ve got 17 outfield [players] with three keepers. So you need to get one or two, obviously, in certain positions. We know that, we’ve known that since the start of the season, but obviously, free agents.

“There are a lot of things we need; let’s not kid ourselves. Yes, obviously I’m disappointed with the result [vs Sekhukhune] because we expected the defense has be good the last four games. Our goalkeeper hasn’t made a save in four games,” he concluded.

Lepasa was in the Bafana Bafana team that recently competed in the 2024 CHAN co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, but the Molefi Ntseki-led outfit failed to get past the group stage.

After the international break, Durban FC will play Siwelele FC in the PSL outing.
