Hugo Broos has unveiled a 38-man provisional squad for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers
Dutch-born forward Simon van Duivenbooden, Kaizer Chiefs new boy Rushwin Dortley and Orlando Pirates midfielder Talente Mbatha are among new call-ups to the Bafana Bafana squad.
Coach Hugo Bross named his provisional 38-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with South Africa set to take on Uganda on September 6, and there were six new call-ups to the team.
Van Duivenbooden, who plays for Dutch club Vitesse, recently received his South Africa passport and will be hoping to make the final 23-man squad to showcase his talents to Bafana Bafana fans.
Will the new call-ups make it to the final 23?
Dortley, meanwhile, who has started a new chapter at Chiefs after joining from Cape Town Spurs, has been elevated to the senior side after captaining the second-string squad at the 2024 COSAFA Cup, where he scored on his debut.
Pirates midfield dynamo Mbatha will also hope to be selected in the final team, so are Stellenbosch FC duo Devin Titus and Fawaaz Basadien, who were also part of the COSAFA team.
Another Pirates player in goalkeeper Sipho Chaine, who is uncapped at senior level, will also be hoping for a chance in goal as returning Luke le Roux and Mihlali Mayambela look to impress the technical bench to be selected in the final 23.

Bafana Bafana are on a great run of form
South Africa are in Group K alongside Uganda, Congo and South Sudan and after the meeting with the Cranes, they will travel to Juba to take on South Sudan on September 10.
Bafana Bafana are on an eight-match unbeaten run, dating back to late January 2024 when they lost to Nigeria in the semi-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
