‘I’m not a fan’: Ex-Chiefs defender questions Nabi football

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tshepo Masilela has expressed concerns about Nasreddine Nabi's tactical approach following the team's 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City.

The loss at DHL Stadium saw Chiefs concede through a counterattack that originated from a lost ball during a long throw-in.

Masilela questioned Nabi's strategy, suggesting that the coach encourages his center-backs to be more attacking during throw-in situations.

He believes that this aggressive approach ultimately backfired in this instance.

‘YOU CAN’T CONCEDE LIKE THAT’

“For Chiefs, you can't concede like that, throw in, next thing it's a counter-attack. Where was the rest defence?” asked Masilela, speaking on SoccerBeat YouTube Channel as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“I'm not a fan of this long-throw-and-hoping-to-score football. Long throw and you send two centre-backs? You're gambling, you're just hoping and it backfired.”

Meanwhile, during the post-match press conference, questions were raised regarding Chiefs' inability to consistently keep clean sheets, despite their struggles to find the back of the net.

Nabi's side has only managed to keep a single clean sheet in their last 11 matches, highlighting a significant defensive vulnerability.

“I don't think there is a need talking about the defence because the goal we conceded, it was our own throw-in, our defence has to go up,” said Nabi.

“Probably we need to work better on our rest defence. After a throw-in, it's a counter-attack.

“In the first half, the opportunities that we got, had we managed to score one or two goals, we would not be talking about the defence right now.”
