Injury-Hit Kaizer Chiefs Face Big Test in Egypt

Kaizer Chiefs head into their CAF Confederation Cup group-stage opener against Al Masry on Sunday with a squad stretched thin by injuries.

The Soweto giants will be without several key players as they look to make a strong start in Suez.

Key Absentees and Selection Headache

Chiefs have confirmed that Wandile Duba, Lilepo Glody, Khanyisa Mayo, and Gaston Sirino will not travel to Egypt. All four have resumed training after injury layoffs but are not yet ready for competitive action.

The club will take 22 players for the clash, leaving the rest of their 34-man squad behind. For head coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, this means reshuffling the pack and relying on squad depth in a high-pressure environment.

Defensive Boost Amid Setbacks

There is some good news for AmaKhosi fans: Given Msimango returns to the squad after a long absence.

The 28-year-old defender last featured in the Nedbank Cup semi-final triumph over Mamelodi Sundowns last season and will add much-needed stability at the back.

However, fellow centre-back Rushwin Dortley remains sidelined following surgery, leaving Chiefs with limited options in central defence.

New Signings Still Waiting

Two of Chiefs’ pre-season acquisitions, Ethan Chislett and Nkanyiso Shinga, are yet to make their competitive debuts.

Their continued absence highlights the challenges Chiefs have faced in integrating fresh talent into the squad.
