A Mamelodi Sundowns star has openly expressed his disappointment with the 2024/25 season, even though the club secured an incredible eighth consecutive Betway Premiership title.
This candid reflection underscores the immense pressure and sky-high expectations that define the Brazilians' pursuit of excellence.
For Sundowns, merely winning the league, as they've done for the past three seasons, is no longer the ultimate goal; they crave more comprehensive success.
The season saw Sundowns push hard for multiple trophies, making it to two major cup finals: the Carling Knockout Cupand the prestigious CAF Champions League.
These deep runs showcased their quality and desire to sweep all available silverware, a true testament to their ambition.
However, both dreams ended in heartbreak. In November, Magesi FC caused a significant upset, beating Sundowns 2-1 in the Carling Knockout Cup final, a surprising defeat that occurred with Manqoba Mngqithi at the helm.
The most painful blow, however, came on the continental stage, where their Champions League aspirations were once again thwarted, as they lost 3-2 on aggregate to Pyramids FC in the final.

Defender Terrence Mashego didn't shy away from his assessment, describing the season as a “bad season” and making it clear that for a club of Mamelodi Sundowns' caliber, “winning the league is not enough.”
‘FOR US TO WIN THE LEAGUE ONLY…’
“For a status of Sundowns, I would say it was a bad season because we always want to win everything,” said Mashego on Prime Time Sports with Victor Molefe on UKhozi FM.
“So, for us to win the league only, it was a bad season. I don’t want to lie.
“Now, we’re going to the FIFA Club World Cup, a big tournament. It’s a dream for any South African footballer or any footballer to play in the Club World Cup.
“It’s a big competition for everyone and we need to be ready for it. But this season was a bad one for us because the league only is not enough.”
