Jose Riveiro be warned: Mngqithi breaks down how Arrows can shock Pirates

Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi has opened up about how his team can secure an upset against Orlando Pirates in their PSL match on Tuesday.

Arrows play Pirates desperately looking for a win to ease their relegation woes as they are in 14th position with 26 points, just three ahead of 15th-placed Cape Town City, who occupy the playoff place.

Having lost 3-0 to Stellenbosch FC last weekend, extending their winless run to four games, Abafana Bes’thende can ill afford to drop points in their rescheduled fixture and Mngqithi remains confident that his team can down the Buccaneers, who are on a high following their Soweto Derby win last Saturday.

“First we need to look at Pirates, look at their strengths and their last three, four matches, see how we can capitalise in some of their weaknesses,” Mngqithi told FARPost.

“We need to also do the best we can in dealing with the areas where they are strong. And I’m always confident that in games where you don’t need intrinsic motivation, this team can always come out and surprise you because they also want it.

“It’s just unfortunate that when you win those matches [against the so-called big teams], and you have given points away in these matches [against the small teams], it feels bad.

Bucs still with slim title hopes

“But I’m very confident that in that Pirates game, we can still do very well.”

The match will kick off at 19:30 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday having been called off on February 19 due to a waterlogged pitch and Arrows will want to do well at home as they face Pirates again at Orlando Stadium a week later.

Pirates still have slim hopes of winning the PSL but need to win all their remaining six games and still hope that Mamelodi Sundowns lose at least two for them to close in.
