Former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has commented on speculation linking him to top jobs in South Africa, including Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs.
Riveiro’s name has come up in discussions over the two big jobs in the country with the Bafana hotseat set to be vacant after the 2026 World Cup when veteran tactician Hugo Broos will retire.
Meanwhile, Chiefs could be looking for a new coach at the end of the current season after the club opted to retain Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze in a co-coaching capacity after their boss Nasreddine Nabi left but they have up to the end of the campaign to impress.
Would Riveiro take over Bafana Bafana?

Riveiro, who has been without a job since his sacking from Egyptian giants Al Ahly in September, was asked about the Bafana job and he opted to be coy about it.
“It’s a beautiful moment for South African football. There is a coach, a respectful one. Let him finish this journey. What happens after, nobody knows,” he said when he was appointed the Carling Black Label Brand Advocate.
Asked if Chiefs, or another South African club approached him, the Spanish coach was forthright.

“I’m a Pirate. Always,” he said, maintaining his stance that he would never coach another South African club.
“Everybody knows that when I say I’m a Pirate, I’m not joking. If the opportunity comes to coach in South Africa, everyone knows the answer.”
Riveiro has hinted at possibly coaching in Europe after confirming that he has had discussions with sides from a number of European clubs.
