Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has explained what the new coach at Orlando Pirates must have to succeed at the club.
Pirates are on the search for Jose Riveiro’s successor after the Spanish coach ended his three-year spell at the club this month with reports claiming he is set to be unveiled by Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Riveiro had lifted standards at Pirates, leading them to three straight second place finishes in the PSL, CAF Champions League semi-final this season while he won five trophies, three MTN8s and two Nedbank Cups.
Khanye wants Riveiro’s philosophy followed

The Spanish mentor also improved the players and handed opportunities to a number of youngsters and these are some of things Khanye wants to see in his successor.
“They are the closest [to Mamelodi Sundowns], the difference will be six points if they win their remaining matches. Going forward they mustn’t lose games but firstly they must bring a coach who will not change a lot of things when he arrives,” Khanye told iDiski TV.
“Someone who will add depth, keep the same philosophy and add some tactics here and there and win all the games and dominate.
“The coach that will come I think should be similar to [Jose] Riveiro. Believe in those youngsters and play them according to their strengths. He is not going to win all the games because also Sundowns will still be there but all the other games he must win.”
What do Pirates need to knock off Sundowns?

Khanye also feels Pirates must have a quality bench if they want to compete with Mamelodi Sundowns as that is what has been letting them down under Riveiro.
“He must be a coach that will add depth because if you look, they have one set of 11 and their bench it’s not really impressive and sometimes they lack match fitness like [Karim] Kimvuidi and [Bandile] Shandu,” he added.
“He needs to have depth enough to have another starting team on the bench and the other on the stands.”
A number of candidates have been floated around as possible candidates to succeed Riveiro with veteran Pitso Mosimane and Rulani Mokwena among South African coaches linked with the Pirates job.
