Kaizer Chiefs advised to go for ‘good gamble’ Zakhele Lepasa & Dzenan Zajmovic

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Farouk Khan has advised the club to sign ex-TS Galaxy striker Dzenan Zajmovic who he feels is a ‘perfect fit’ for coach Nasreddine Nabi’s team.

Zajmovic played a key part in Galaxy’s run to fifth place in the PSL last season as he scored seven league goals in 25 matches, 11 across all competitions, but was surprisingly released by the club at the end of the campaign.

With the striker now a free agent, Khan feels his ex-club should make a move for him as he has all the qualities to succeed at the club.

“He showed a lot of goalscoring prowess, he is good in the air, which is very essential,” Khan said of Zajmovic on SoccerBeat.

Why does Khan want Zajmovic at Naturena?

“He is good at feet as well, good decision-making. If they can get him as soon as possible, throw him in and then make sure, to be fair to [Tashreeq] Morris and the other guys, trim them down, put them on loan, get rid of them.

“You cannot have a heavy strike force. That will give [Wandile] Duba enough time to come in if need be, if they do sign possibly [Zakhele] Lepasa because you do not want to have excess baggage and then none of them plays because Lepasa will only improve if he gets more gametime as well.”

Khan also feels Chiefs should take a chance on Zakhele Lepasa who was released by Orlando Pirates last week after an injury-ravaged last two seasons.

“It all depends on the type of game plan he [Nabi] has. Is he going to play with wingers, is he going to use full-backs to overlap to bring in crosses, what is the service going to be?” he posed.

Lepasa backed to succeed at Kaizer Chiefs

“Today, you have an out-and-out no.9 and you have a false nine. I think as Tsepo [Masilela] demonstrated earlier, if you look at Lepasa is more of a false nine coming from deep, getting the ball and making play but in the 63 games he played, he only scored 15 goals with two assists.

“Okay, he was injured for most of the time last season. He did not play one game for Orlando Pirates. He was injured for the complete duration but we know that Hugo Broos saw some quality and that is why he chose him for the Bafana setup so I think if he is on a free, he is a good gamble for me.

“Whether he will start will be dependent on his match fitness and how he is able to gel with the team.”

Chiefs struggled for goals last season with their striker force that had Ranga Chivaviro, Morris, Wandile Duba and Ashely Du Preez not scoring a combined 10 goals in the league, contributing to their disappointing ninth place finish.

Chivaviro has since been released with Chiefs signing Portuguese striker Flavio Silva but the club is believed to be in the market for more strikers with the future of Moriss also uncertain.
