Ranga Chivaviro’s damning stats that left Chiefs with no choice but to release him

Kaizer Chiefs have decided against renewing the contract of striker Ranga Chivaviro after his underwhelming spell at the club.

Chivaviro’s contract ends this month and he will have to look for a new club after Amakhosi decided to part ways with him after two years at Naturena where he failed to meet expectations.

The 32-year-old striker joined Chiefs ahead of the 2023-24 season with his stock high after netting 17 goals for Marumo Gallants but he could not replicate that for the Glamour Boys with this season seeing him disappoint even more.

How many goals did the striker score in two years?

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi has offered advice to striker Ranga Chivaviro, who faced criticism from fans for missing scoring chances in the recent Carling Knockout Cup match against SuperSport United.

Chivaviro struggled in the first half, leading to calls for his substitution. However, he redeemed himself by scoring a goal in the second half and responding to the boos with a gesture indicating that fans talk too much.

Tsotetsi believes that focusing on criticism and public opinion can hinder Chivaviro's performance, as he has shown he can become a consistent scorer for the team.

The former defender urged Chivaviro to focus on improving himself to regain the support of Chiefs fans.

TSOTETSI TELLS CHIVAVIRO TO REFRAIN FROM RESPONDING TO CRITICISM

"I saw the game and he missed so many and he was in the right positions at the right time,” said Tsotetsi.

“But the good thing is, as a striker, is that he is always there (in the good positions). My advice to him is to focus on his game and focus on bettering himself.

“He has been scoring lately and he is working hard and the technical team is happy with what he is given them.

"For him to want to answer the supporters is not worth it because he needs to focus on his game and make sure that he improves.

“I saw the supporters booing him, but it's important to focus on his game. Look at the goal he scored. It was a marvelous goal.

“He must continue working hard and see where he can improve. He is someone who can score goals and he needs to be mentally strong.

“He should not let supporters play with his mind or else he will end up losing concentration and lose confidence in himself."

Chivaviro leaves Chiefs after scoring just nine goals in all competitions in two seasons, damning statistics for a striker who promised so much and had delivered well elsewhere.

In his first season at Chiefs, Chivaviro scored just four goals, all coming in the PSL, where he played 20 games, while in the Nedbank Cup, MTN8 and Carling Knockout, he managed one game each and scored a piece.

That saw him complete the season with four goals from 23 games across all competitions but there was hope that there would be an improvement in fortunes the following campaign.

However, even after the change of coach with Nasreddine Nabi now in charge in 2024-25, Chivaviro still did not light up the FNB.

Nabi quickly lost faith the centre forward

He started the first five games under Nabi and scored two goals but by November, the tactician had started losing faith in him with bench roles now becoming common.

Chivaviro would score his third league goal in December and that was the end of it. He managed two more goals, one in the Nedbank Cup and another one in the Carling Knockout, and ended the season with five from 22 games.

With Chiefs disappointing in the league, where they finished ninth, attack was one of the areas that let them down, as they led the table on chance creation but had no one to convert them, leaving them short as they managed just 25 goals from 28 matches.
