Kaizer Chiefs and Castillo make decision over future

Kaizer Chiefs have extended midfielder Edson Castillo's contract at the club by a year, ending speculations about his future.

The 30-year-old's initial deal with the Soweto giants was set to expire at the end of the ongoing 2024/25 season. The Venezuela international joined the Glamour Boys in 2023 and has been a key player for the club.

However, in October last year, the midfielder suffered a nasty injury in the Premier Soccer League game against SuperSport United. He broke his fibula which has seen him miss 16 games across all competitions. However, he had done enough to prove his worth to the Glamour Boys who have not hesitated to add him another year.

The South American's agent Mauricio Andrade has now confirmed the good news to the fans and the club's stakeholders.

“I can confirm that Edson will stay for another season, he has renewed his contract with Chiefs and there is also an option to continue for another year,” he told iDiski Times.

“Edson is very happy with his extension as it was his desire to continue with the club for next years to come. He is committed to helping the team win trophies.”

Castillo has been training since January and is close to getting match fitness. He will be battling for a starting berth with the likes of Samkelo Zwane, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Njabulo Blom, and captain Yusuf Maart.

Thabo Cele is another player who has been doing well for Chiefs since joining the team in the January transfer window.
