The Soweto giants have not been as busy as initially anticipated but the management has confirmed it is not yet a done deal.
Kaizer Chiefs are not yet done with signing new players ahead of the 2024/25 Premier Soccer League season.
The Glamour Boys struggled to an embarrassing 10th-place finish in the 2023/24 campaign, which led to massive changes, especially in the technical team. Apart from bringing coach Nasreddine Nabi and his team to help Amakhosi, a few players were released upon the expiry of their contracts.
Striker Jasond Gonzalez did not impress during his loan spell and was let go with Sifiso Hlanti, Siyethemba Sithebe, and Keagan Dolly. So far, Chiefs have signed Bongani Sam, Rushwin Dortley, and Fiacre Ntwari.
More signings are coming
The Soweto giants have promised to unveil the new players on Sunday when they play Yanga SC in the Toyota Cup. Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. has confirmed more players will be brought on board to bolster the squad.
“[Chiefs are] definitely not done in the transfer market because there are some glaring positions in the squad that we need to reinforce,” the administrator insisted.
“We have a young squad at this moment, it’s a squad that needs a bit of experience and a bit of quality, so we’re very mindful of the demands placed on what’s coming next season. We’re working tirelessly day and night behind the scenes to make sure we reinforce. We have gotten a bit of a clear roadmap [from the coach] of what kind of player we need in which positions, so we’re working towards that.
“[The coach] is very clear on the kind of player that he wants to be on this team, and he’s very clear on the kind of football he wants to play, and very clear on the level of discipline and mentality he wants to work with,” Motaung Jr. concluded.
The first competitive game for Amakhosi will be on Wednesday, August 14 against Marumo Gallants in the Premier Soccer League.
