Orlando Pirates or Kaizer Chiefs? Sono predicts Soweto derby winner

Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are set to meet for the first time this season in the Premier Soccer League’s Soweto derby at the FNB Stadium.

The defending champions have been consistent in the South African top-tier, winning seven out of the eight games they have played, and drawing the remaining one. Amakhosi have three wins and five draws which puts them fifth on the table.

Prior to the Soweto derby, both teams were involved in the Carling Knockout Round of 16 game. Bucs beat Marumo Gallants 3-0 while the Glamour Boys managed to get past TS Galaxy with the same scoreline.

Bafana Bafana legend Jomo Sono has now explained why he feels Chiefs will struggle against the Sea Robbers.

Straight win for Pirates?

“Pirates are going to win, obviously. Chiefs look promising now, but the thing is Pirates has been consistent,” Sono said as quoted by KickOff.

“Pirates have been introducing these youngsters properly. So, it’s a very interesting game because iKhosi have confidence after beating TS Galaxy 3-0. But in that match, until iKhosi scored the first goal, their performance was the same as Galaxy’s. They were equal.

“After losing the centre-back, Mlondi Mncwango, Galaxy lost balance, and the floodgates were opened.

“So, [the writing is on the wall for] this derby, Pirates are going to win,” the South Africa legend concluded.
