Kaizer Chiefs coach identifies ‘big problem’ after Chippa United draw

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalid Ben Youssef feels his team have still not addressed one main problem that keeps costing them wins.

Chiefs played out a goalless draw with Chippa United on Wednesday but it is a match they should have won as Flavio da Silva, Mfundo Vilakazi and Mduduzi Shabalala wasted glorious opportunities to score.

The Glamour Boys saw a chance to cut Orlando Pirates’ lead to three points go up in smoke following the draw and it is now three straight matches without a win for Chiefs, who had come into the contest on the back of a 2-1 loss to Al Masry and 1-1 draw with Zamalek in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Ben Youssef is blaming all their woes on their inability to convert their chances, a problem that has dogged them for most of this season, and which the coaching staff have not found answers to.

What is the Chiefs coach blaming their woes on?

“First I have to say congratulations to Chippa for the game they play, they played with a good structure, there was fight in every challenge,” Ben Youssef said on SuperSport TV.

“For us, I think we don’t have any excuse. When you get a lot of opportunities, even from six metres one-on-one and you don’t score, that’s football.

“We have to continue to work, we have to correct the same problem. Now we are every time in the final third and we don’t score. That’s the big problem that we have and we have to continue to work.”

The draw left Chiefs five points behind leaders Pirates and three adrift of Sundowns but they have a chance to close in on Sunday when they take on TS Galaxy in their final match of the year.
