Kaizer Chiefs coach names next big star at Naturena – ‘He’s going to be the best thing ever’

Kaizer Chiefs reserve team coach Vela Khumalo has identified the player who he feels is going to turn out into a superstar at the club.

Khumalo is in charge of the DStv Diski Challenge team and lead them to their maiden title last season and is hoping to defend their crown this term.

Having seen the likes of Aden McCarthy, one of the most outstanding players in the DDC last season promoted, Khumalo says there is another one chomping at the beat.

Who is the player tipped to shine at Chiefs?

Shaun Els

“I think Neo [Bohloko] more clever. He has played the game, he has been in the game, but he’s still to see Shaun,” Khumalo told iDiski Times in praise of striker Shaun Els, who started ahead of Neo Bohloko, and scored his maiden goal, in their 1-1 draw with Sekhukhune United on Sunday.

“He’s very clinical. It was his second game now, with time he will get better, he’s going to be the best thing ever. We’re looking for strikers and he’s a finisher. He’s a striker. He’s got the instincts of being a good striker.

“But Neo is a little bit clever. He has been in the game for some time now, maturity he is in there. And not really much of a difference, but technically gifted both of them.”

Shaun Els has been earning rare reviews

Vela Khumalo.

It is not the first time Khumalo is showering praise on Els, who graduated from the U19 side and became an instant hit in the DDC.

“He is coming very, very strong now that (Naledi) Hlongwane is going to the first team, he is going to be a very good replacement. He is giving Neo Bohloko a run for his money,” Khumalo told Soccer Laduma in September.

With a number of Chiefs youngsters making a seamless transition into the senior side, Els will hope to grab his opportunities this season to stay in contention for a place in the senior side next term.
