Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel has opened up on the tactical decisions that his country Angola will likely make to stop Bafana Bafana wingers during Monday’s clash.
South Africa open their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a clash against Angola at the Marrakech Stadium on Monday evening (19:00 SA Time) and wingers Oswin Apppollis as well as Mohau Nkota are likely to start with Relebohile Mofokeng coming from the bench.
Bafana Bafana’s attacking threat will come from the young wingers who are fleetfooted and have pace that make them deadly on one-on-one situations as well as on the break, something Angola will have to find solutions for.

Miguel, who has played with some of those in the Angolan team, but missed out on the AFCON 2025 squad, has explained how he thinks his national team colleagues will deal with South Africa’s threat from the wings.
“The easiest thing for us defenders is to give the decision to the strikers or wingers,” said Miguel while speaking to SoccerBeat.
“And then, I will not anticipate because these kinds of players like Appollis, Mofokeng and Nkota, when you try to anticipate, they have a lot of skills and solutions to come out.”
Miguel feels Angola full-backs, especially right-back Clinton Masa, who will come up against Appollis, have to be careful not to overcommit when coming up against the South African wingers, limiting their options, and giving them a chance to close them down.
How will Angola stop the Bafana widemen?
“So we will see in the game that Clinton Mata will not be the only one close to Appollis and Nkota,” he added.
“Maybe they will give them [Appollis and Nkota] time and space to decide and wait for the cover of the centre-back and then decide to either let him go on the line or cut inside so I think they will manage well but it will be a big challenge,” admitted the Chiefs defender.
Angola have a great recent record against South Africa as they unbeaten in their five meetings with Bafana Bafana, a period in which they have won three while two games have ended in draws.
