Coming into the match with momentum from a 4-1 triumph over Emmarentia Pirates the previous week, Chiefs initially struggled to penetrate North West University’s resilient defence. The first half ended in a goalless stalemate.

However, the home side emerged from the break with renewed attacking purpose and their pressure paid off seven minutes into the second half. Unathi Mjijwa broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute, giving Chiefs a well-deserved lead.

Despite North West University’s continued resistance, their hopes of a comeback were dashed late in the game. Zanele Kunyamane doubled the lead in the 83rd minute, putting the result beyond doubt.

Just three minutes later, Refilwe Maseko added a third, sealing all three points for Unathi Mabena’s side and cementing their position at the summit of the league standings.
