Kaizer Chiefs have made their 10th signing following the unveiling of former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lebohang Maboe on Tuesday.

Chiefs confirmed the arrival of Maboe to the club where he honed his skills as a teenager before he went on to join Mamelodi Sundowns where he spent seven years before being released at the end of last season.

Maboe came through the ranks at Chiefs before joining Mbombela United and then Maritzburg United and linked up with Sundowns in 2018.

The midfielder played for Sundowns for six years before he was loaned out to SuperSport United [now Siwelele FC] last season where he made 25 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal while providing two assists, after which his parent club cut ties with him.

Chiefs have snapped him up to add experience to their side as they look to challenge on multiple fronts with the PSL and CAF Confederation Cup the ones they are giving priority this season.

“We know Lebo is a quality player who has gained valuable experience in continental competitions over the past few years,” said Chiefs Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr through a club statement.

Who else has been signed by the Glamour Boys?

“His expertise will be crucial for us in both the domestic league and the CAF Confederation Cup. We’re pleased to welcome him back to Amakhosi. He was here and knows the culture and what our supporters expect from our players.”

The 13-capped Bafana Bafana midfielder is Chiefs’ 10th signing following the arrivals of Flavio Silva, Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Paseka Mako, Thabiso Monyane, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Asanele Velebayi, Etiosa Ighodaro and Luke Baartman.

Maboe will compete with the likes of Mduduzi Shabalala, Ethan Chislett and Gaston Sirino for a starting place in the No.10 role in Nasreddine Nabi’s team.
