Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly decided to release midfielder Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa just one year after joining the club.
Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi seems to have already settled on his team and the club is seeking a way out for those surpluses to requirements.
Mthethwa has not featured this season and it appears like he will find it tough to get into the team, hence the decision to allow him to leave.
“These are the players who the coach has recommended that they should be loaned out and those who he thinks even next season won’t be needed and Ox is one of those players who he thinks should be released,” a source told Soccer Laduma.
Why are Chiefs ready to allow Ox to leave?
“Now, it is all up to the management to make the big decision to let him go. But with two years to go on his contract, the best they can do is to sell him. So, between now and January, the team has to find a buyer or at least a loan deal that would end up being permanent. That’s what the team is working on now,” he added.
The outlet further reports that the player was the subject on interest from a number of PSL clubs such as Chippa United, AmaZulu, Stellenbosch and Richards Bay who were keen on loan deals but it did not materialise.
Mthethwa joined Chiefs from Stellies last season but has fallen out of favour in recent months, leaving his future in doubt.
